After years of rod development with other rod companies, Magictail set out to make their own ultimate one piece surf rod. These moderate yet powerful, rods have a broad "working" casting weight range making them very universal fishing rods that excel fishing open sand beaches, inlets and jetties.
The one piece design provides a beautiful action with moderate loading action. These surf rod are easy to load and with quick recover cast great too. Their action also prevent dropping fish by offering cushion when battling fish in a rough surging surf. Fast action rods are notorious for dropping fish in the wash. Not the case with these.
Available in two models both 9' one piece rods, the Medium Fast 3/4-4oz and the Medium Heavy 2-6oz. The rods look and feel very close to one another, but 3/4-4 is lighter with a more moderate action and the 2-6 has significantly more power with a heavier action for fishing larger/heavier lures. Both rods feature a doorknob butt cap, X shrink rear 17" grip built up casting grip above butt, classic Fuji reel seat and X shrink 6" fore grip. From butt to the center of the reel seat 19.5". The 3/4-4 has all single foot guides and the 2-6 has four double foot K-guides with three single foot guides in the upper tip region. All of the guides are quality black painted stainless frame Fuji's with Alconite ring, wrapped with sleek all black and ample epoxy for long lasting durability.
If looking for a lighter approach with lures like in the 1-3oz range go for the 3/4-4oz rod. It matches up great with a Penn 4500, Shimano 5000 and a Van Staal 150. For a heavier option for jig, swim baits and wood lures in the 2-1/2 to 4+oz range go choose the 2-6 model. It pairs great with a Penn 4500/5500, Shimano 6000, Daiwa 5000MQ and Van Staal VR175/200 or VSX200.
